Early Life
On March 21, 1972, he was born in Carlisle, Massachusetts. However, details of John Berman's parents, siblings, and early life kept private. Having American nationality, Berman is of Jewish descent. He joined Phillips Academy Andover, an independent co-educational, boarding, and day, university-preparatory school in the town of Andover in Massachusetts.

In the year 1990, he left the Academy and enrolled at Harvard University. From the University, John graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies.
Career
He started his professional career as a junior office post at ABC News after leaving Harvard. Berman quickly advanced to the position of Chief Writer for ABC World News Tonight's longtime anchor Peter Jennings. He was tasked with covering the White House following President George W. Bush's inauguration. After six months, he asked to be sent to New York. The World Trade Center towers were demolished during his first week of employment due to the September 11 attacks. At the start of the conflict in al-Nasiriyah, Berman worked as an on-air correspondent while embedded with a Marine combat unit as a general assignment reporter in Iraq. On September 15, 2022, it was made known that Berman will be departing New Day alongside Brianna Keilar at the conclusion of the current season.
