American television broadcaster, Chip Caray is well-known for being the voice of the Atlanta Braves for two decades. At present, he works for Fox Sports South as a sports broadcaster.

Early Life & Education

He is the son of parents Skip Caray and Lila Haberberger, born on February 27, 1965. Chip's father Skip, also an American sports commentator. Sadly, his parents got divorced when he was 5 years old. Having American nationality, Caray is of white ethnicity. 

He grew up with his siblings Josh Caray, Cindy Hines, and Shaylyn Woodbery. He finished his early education at Parkway West High School located in Ballwin, Missouri. Then Chip enrolled at Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. In the year 1987, he completed his Bachelor's in Journalism from the University of Georgia. 


Career

Long before he was hired by Fox, he worked for regional television stations in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Panama City, Florida. He worked as the play-by-play announcer for the NBA's Orlando Magic from 1989 until 1998. From 1993 through 1995, Caray served as an American League baseball game producer for the Seattle Mariners. Caray earned a two-game trial with the St. Louis Cardinals while working as a broadcaster for the Mariners. He was supposed to sign with St. Louis after the 1994 season, but he decided to stay with Seattle. In 1996, Caray worked as a commentator for the inaugural season of Major League Baseball on Fox. As a broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs beginning in 1998, Chip was given the opportunity to work alongside his grandpa. After the passing of his grandfather Harry Caray in February 1998, Chip stayed with the team and took over as "the voice of the Cubs."

In order to be nearer to his family, who lived in Orlando, Florida, Caray revealed on the final day of the 2004 season that he had signed a long-term contract with both TBS and Clear Channel to work with his father, Skip, calling games for the Atlanta Braves. Also, Caray started working as a broadcaster for TBS's coverage of the Big 12 and Pac-10 in college football. The Braves' broadcast team underwent a significant change in 2007: Don Sutton left to become the Washington Nationals' full-time announcer; Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren moved to the Braves Radio Network full-time; and Joe Simpson signed with Fox Broadcasting Company to work as a color analyst on FSN South and Sports South and to call a select number of games on TBS alongside Chip Caray.

Caray served as a broadcaster for TBS and serve as the network's primary play-by-play announcer for its coverage of the MLB playoffs. Caray received criticism for factual inaccuracies during TBS's postseason coverage. The decision to split ways between Caray and the network was revealed by TBS on November 30, 2009. On December 21, 2009, Fox Sports South and SportSouth confirmed Caray as their play-by-play commentator for all 105 Braves games. On January 23, 2023, it was revealed that Caray will succeed longtime broadcaster Dan McLaughlin as the play-by-play announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chip Caray has been happily married to Susan Caray. His wife Susan is a former diamond director at biotech company Lifemax International. On April 6, 1996, they tied the wedding knot in a private wedding ceremony. Before their marriage, they dated and in an affair for a long time.

Chip and Susan became parents of four children, a daughter Summerlyn Caray and three sons, Christopher Caray, Stefan Caray, and Tristan CarayThey have been happily married for more than two decades. Also, there aren't any rumors or controversies regarding their personal life. With his family, Chip lives in Saint Augustine, Florida.
