American sportswriter, Brian Windhorst is well-known for covering LeBron James' high school games. Also, he has covered the National Basketball Association (NBA), who currently works for ESPN.

Early Life

He is the son of parents Todd E. Windhorst (father) and mother Merrylou Windhorst. On January 29, 1978, Brian Windhorst was born somewhere in the United States of America. Having American nationality, Windhorst is of white ethnicity. 

He joined St. Vincent–St. Mary High School, located in Akron, Ohio. In the year 2000, he graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism.


Career

During James' time playing in high school, Windhorst started covering him. In the year 2003, he started covering the Cavaliers, and the same year LeBron was drafted. James was the youngest player in the league, while Windhorst was the youngest traveling NBA beat reporter. He co-authored The Franchise: LeBron James and the Remaking of the Cleveland Cavaliers with sportswriter Terry Pluto in 2007. In 2009, his work at The Plain Dealer was honored for Best Game Story by the Associated Press and the United States Basketball Writers Association. In order to follow James' new team, the Miami Heat, Windhorst departed The Plain Dealer for ESPN in 2010. Prior to leaving The Plain Dealer, he wrote pieces for ESPN.com and appeared on ESPN First Take.

LeBron James was "clearly a huge factor" in Windhorst's choice to join ESPN, but he added that the Cavaliers "need to move on" without James. Along with delivering his own weekly program on affiliated radio station WWGK AM 1540. On October 10, 2014, Windhorst began working for ESPN Cleveland on WKNR AM 850 in Cleveland as their Cavaliers beat reporters and pundits. Windhorst is the presenter of the well-known Hoop Collective podcast in addition to writing for ESPN.

For defeating Adrian Wojnarowski, one of the top NBA writers, on James Harden's 2022 trade from the Brooklyn Nets to the Philadelphia 76ers, Windhorst won a lot of praise on February 10, 2022.  Wojnarowski had vehemently disputed Windhorst's assertions on the existence of trade negotiations between the two teams. Despite what his ESPN colleague claimed, Windhorst insisted that actual trade conversations were taking place.

He has authored multiple books about James LeBron during the course of his career, including The Franchise in 2007, LeBron James: The Making of an MVP in 2009, and Return of the King in 2017.
