Min Yoon-gi Siblings
In Daegu, South Korea, he was born on March 9, 1993. Min is the younger child of his parents, whose identity kept private. He grew up along with his elder sibling brother Min Geum-jae. He disclosed that his parents didn't approve of his professional career choice. Also, his parents even threw away his music and lyrics notes. Having Korean nationality, Yoon-gi is of Asian ethnicity.
He enrolled at Taejeon Elementary School, Gwaneum Middle School, and Apgujeong High School. Early Career
After hearing "Ragga Muffin" by Stony Skunk, he got fascinated by rap, claiming that it was unlike anything he had ever heard. He made the decision to become a rapper after hearing Epik High. He began writing song lyrics when he was 13 years old and also learned about MIDI. By the age of 17, he had a part-time job at a recording studio.
He started writing and arranging songs, rapping, and performing after that. He worked as an underground rapper going by the moniker Gloss before getting signed. In 2010, he created "518-062" with the hip-hop group D-Town, a song honoring the Gwangju Uprising.
Career In BTS
Suga trained under Big Hit Entertainment for three years alongside colleagues J-Hope and RM before first joining the firm as a song producer. He made his Mnet's M Countdown debut with the BTS song "No More Dream" from their first single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. On each of the band's albums, he has produced and written the lyrics for a range of songs. For BTS' third Korean-language extended play (EP), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1, Suga composed and performed the title track, "Intro: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life."
Pt. 1's follow up EP, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2, featured another introduction performed by Suga, called "Intro: Never Mind", which recounted his teenage years. After "Interlude: Shadow" from Map of the Soul: 7 in 2020, Suga did not perform another opening song for BTS. Suga has made two solo tracks available under the BTS moniker. The first was a song about autobiographical track life called "First Love" which was included on the band's 2016 studio album Wings. The second was "Trivia: Seesaw," a song he sang for BTS' 2018 compilation album Love Yourself: Answer and which was about the ups and downs of being in love.
Solo Career
On August 15, 2016, Suga offered a free self-titled mixtape on SoundCloud. The concept, which he rejected from being made into a for-sale studio album, was what he called the "feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework." In February 2018, Suga released his debut mixtape for digital download and streaming. Suga contributed a rap feature to Lee So-ra's track "Song Request" in January 2019. He co-authored and produced Heize's digital single "We Don't Talk Together". IU released the Suga-featuring digital song "Eight" on May 6, 2020. The music video for "Daechwita," the main song from Suga's second mixtape, D-2, was also released. This record reached number 76 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Suga revised the "Over The Horizon" ringtone that has been synonymous with Samsung as of 2021. Suga appeared on the song "Girl of My Dreams" from the posthumous album Fighting Demons by American rapper Juice Wrld. As the lead single off Psy's ninth studio album, Psy 9th, it was released on April 29, 2022. He then co-wrote, produced, and contributed to the song "That That" for the artist. Under the name August D, he released his first solo album, titled D-Day, on April 21. The release of the album coincided with the broadcast of the Disney+ documentary Suga: Road to D-Day, which followed the rapper as he made his way around many nations while creating the record.
