Is Ray Romano Italian?

In Queens, New York City, he was born as the second son of Albert Romano, and Lucie Romano. Her mother Lucie, a piano teacher, and father Albert, a real estate agent and engineer. On December 21, 1957, he was born with the birth name Raymond Albert Romano. Ray grew up in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens along with his elder brother Richard (born 1956), a sergeant with the NYPD.

Also, he has a young sibling brother Robert (born c. 1966), a second-grade teacher in New York City. Having American nationality, Romano is of Italian descent. He joined the elementary and middle school at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills. In the year 1975, Ray graduated from Hillcrest High School after transferring from Archbishop Molloy High School. Romano briefly studied accounting at Queens College in Flushing, New York, before entering the entertainment industry.


Career

In 1989, he participated in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search, which was overseen by Saturday Night Live short film producer Neal Marshad, and made his television debut on The Comedy Channel. His career spanned a variety of platforms, including Comedy Central, where he frequently appeared as a guest star on the program Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Also, he was a contestant on Star Search in the stand-up comedy category. He subsequently performed his stand-up act on The Late Show with David Letterman, which cemented his relationship with CBS. Ray started his own show, Everybody Loves Raymond on CBS, and the format more suitable to Romano's brand of humor. In 2002, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series after receiving six nominations for his role on the show.

Also, Romano shared two Emmy Awards as an executive producer when his show won Outstanding Comedy Series in 2003 and 2005. At the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 1998, Romano delivered the opening monologue. In 2008, Romano made a comeback on television with Men of a Certain Age, a new dramedy for TNT that he co-created with Mike Royce, a former writer for Everybody Loves Raymond. He appeared in the third-season premiere of the ABC sitcom The Middle as Nicky, a friend of Mike, who ruined his and Frankie's honeymoon.

In the 2002 film Ice Age and its follow-ups Ice Age: The Meltdown in 2006, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 2009, Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012, and Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016, Romano provided the voice of Manfred (Manny), a woolly mammoth. He played a leading role in three seasons of the MGM+ television show Get Shorty from 2017 to 2019. Ray starred in the Netflix comedy film Paddleton and portrayed mob lawyer Bill Bufalino in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman in the year 2019.
