Due to his 1998 public lewdness arrest and subsequent drug-related arrests, his personal life, drug usage, and legal issues made headlines in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In the year 1998, he came out as gay. On Christmas Day 2016, Michael passed away from heart illness in his Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, home.
