About Charles Wayne Day Early Life

In Chicago, Illinois, United States, he was born on August 5, 1942, with the full name Charles Wayne "Chuck" Day. His parents Hugh Cassidy (father) and mother Mylda (Kleege). Also, he had a sibling Schea Cotton. He was very much interested in the field of music. At the age of 3, his musical abilities began to blossom.

Charles recorded the song “Pony Tail Partner” at Federal Records under the name Bing Day (1957) at the age of 15. His family helped him and moved him to Los Angeles after he realized that music was his true passion. He held American nationality and belonged to mixed ethnicity. Charles could have skipped college because he got his start in music at a young age.


Career

In the year 1965, he moved to Los Angeles, California, and began a career as one of the most popular “unknown” rock and roll musicians. Charles became the bassist with Johnny Rivers’ Band and created the recognizable lead guitar riff that Rivers later used in “Secret Agent Man.”  He played bass for the Mamas and the Papas in 1967. Also, Charles served as the second guitarist on the songs “Monday, Monday” and “California Dreaming.”

During the 1970s and 1980s, he contributed to many records including Shel Silverstein’s Freaker’s Ball. He contributed to the Fritz the Cat soundtrack together with musicians Luther Tucker and Merl Saunders. He began his band in the year 1986. Charles lived in Fairfax, California after moving there in 1969, where he performed until he became ill in January 2007. He won Grammy awards for his music.

However, Charles was identified as the biological father of Owen Vanessa Elliot, a child of the late Mamas and The Papas vocalist Cass Elliot, after Day’s passing.

Then to District Hospital in Healdsburg, where he stayed until his death on March 10, 2008. Charles was honored with a memorial service and a procession in Fairfax on March 22, 2008.
