Tao is the son of Alessandro Ruspoli (father), aristocrat Prince Alessandro Ruspoli, 9th Prince of Cerveteri, and mother Debra Berger, an Austrian-American actress. His elder sibling brother Bartolomeo Ruspoli. Also, he has several other half-siblings from his father’s other relationships.
His half-siblings Francesco Ruspoli, Melusine Ruspoli, Theodore and Alexandre Ruspoli. Tao grew up spending time between Italy and America due to his parents’ jobs. Tao acted as the director, editor, and cinematographer in his first project short documentary, Just Say Know in 2002. He created the short film El Cable, followed shortly by another video; This Film Needs No Title: A Portrait of Raymond Smullyman in the year 2004. Ruspoli created another documentary, Flamenco: A Personal Journey in 2005. Also, he acted as the executive producer behind the 2006 documentary, Camjackers. In the year 2008, his break came with his debut film Fix.
