Lauren Zhang's Parents
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, Lauren Zhang was born in December 2001. She is the daughter of Shuang Zhang (father) and mother Hui Li. When she was four years old, Lauren started to play the piano under Madeline Ignazito. At the age of six in Illinois, he studied the violin under Terry Coulton.
In the year 2010, Lauren moved to England along with her family. She joined the Junior Department at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and initially studied piano with Rebeca Omordia. Lauren achieved her fellowship diploma in piano performance at the age of 13 and completed her licentiate diploma the year before. At the age of 12, she achieved her licentiate diploma in violin. She plays in ensembles due to her interest in chamber music. She played Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto, accompanied by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Wigglesworth at the final of the Young Musician competition. Kerry Andrew, chair of the judging panel, praised her performance for its "technical skill and intelligent musicality."

Nicola Benedetti, a winner of the BBC Young Musician competition in 2004, said that her "natural genuine musicianship" impressed him, while Julian Lloyd Webber, Director of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, added:
"Having spent a lifetime making music with some of the world's finest musicians, Lauren is up there with the best—she is a total phenomenon."
The head of the Junior Conservatoire, Timothy English, commented:
"Lauren has been a student at the Junior Conservatoire for the past eight years and it has been a great privilege to watch her develop into an extraordinary young pianist. She is a musician of exceptional talent and commitment, and this latest success is richly deserved."

She won the first prize at the 15th Ettlingen International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Germany in 2016. Her achievements include winning the Young Pianist of the North International Competition in 2015, the Wales International Piano Festival in 2016, first prize in EPTA-UK competitions (18 and under (2016), 15 and under (2015), 12 and under in 2013, and first prize in Emanuel Piano Trophy competitions in 2015.
