Despite not mentioning Gudzinas by name, internet sleuths quickly surmised that Gudzinas was probably the lucky man to handle the athlete's heart. Why Carl Nassib Revealed Being Gay?

On the podcast, Carl Nassib discussed why he felt it was important for everyone to know about his sexual orientation. According to Nassib, he only realized he was gay four years ago, and although his family and close friends already knew, he wanted to establish himself within the league before coming out. He said

“I did it because I felt an obligation to the LGBTQ+ community to bring representation – to bring visibility – to a very, very popular industry that doesn’t have a lot of representation,”

Then he explained.

"It wasn’t easy. Personally, for my life, I didn’t want to do it. But I felt a huge obligation to my community – to all the young kids out there who are struggling with their sexuality. If I could help just a few out then I really could sleep better at night.”
