Keith Grayson was an American disc jockey (DJ) and record executive, professionally known as DJ Kay Slay.

Keith Grayson's Early Life

In New York City, New York, Keith Grayson was born on August 14, 1966. Grayson hailed from the East River Houses located in East Harlem, New York. Keith was a teenager involved in New York's flourishing hip hop scene during the late 1970s and into the 1980s, witnessing the rise of legendary disc jockeys such as Grandmaster Flash, Grand Wizzard Theodore, and Kool DJ Red Alert.

Having American nationality, Keith was of Black ethnicity. He didn't complete his study because he was in jail. Therefore, only limited information about his early life available. Also, he has a siblings brother whose identity kept private. 


Why did Keith Grayson Get Into Jail? 

Keith started dealing with narcotics. As a result, he ended up in jail by the late 1980s. In the year 1990, he was released from jail and claimed to have abstained from using drugs thereafter.

 

Career of Grayson

He released his debut album, The Streetsweeper, Vol. 1, on 20 May 2003 a Streetsweeper series. Grayson released a single, accompanied by a music video, for a song titled "Too Much For Me". Besides Amerie's chorus, American rappers Birdman, Nas, and Foxy Brown contribute verses to the single. This is the DJ's highest-charting single to date, reaching number 53 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Swizz Beatz, N.O.R.E., Raekwon, WC, and Lloyd Banks make cameo appearances in the music video.

His 2nd album The Streetsweeper, Vol. 2, was released on March 30, 2004. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, "Who Gives A...Where You From" with Three 6 Mafia peaked at number 89. He and the song got featured on the 2004 NFL Street video game. More Than Just a DJ was released in 2010, followed by Rhyme or Die. Initial singles for the first album were "60 Second Assassins" featuring Busta Rhymes, Layzie Bone, Twista, and Jaz-O, and "The Kings of the Streets" with DJ Khaled, DJ Drama, DJ Doo Wop, and Fly Nate. Rhyme or Die released "About That Life" featuring Fabolous, T-Pain, Rick Ross, Nelly, and French Montana in 2013.

Kay Slay's most successful single to date debuted and peaked at #54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Fat Joe and 50 Cent released "Free Again" at the beginning of 2014, which surprised some given that they had "beef" before, but reconciled later. A track called "Rolling 110 Deep" was released by Dj Kay Slay in 2021, which featured 110 hip-hop artists including Ice-T, Shaq, Coke La Rock, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, and Ghostface Killah, Roy Jones Jr, Omar Epps, etc.

At the time of his death, Keith Grayson wasn't married but was a happily single man. Music was more important to him than being in a relationship. Previously, Keith Grayson was married to his wife Buffie Carruth. As per reports, Grayson's ex-wife Buffie worked as a writer, fitness teacher, actor, and model.

Reports suggested they met through mutual friends. However, the duo only shared limited information about their relationship. Reports, about their marriage, missing and without any proof, we can't verify. Out of Grayson and Carruth's married life, they became parents of a baby girl but details still missing. Things didn't work between the couple and got a divorce. 


Keith Grayson's Cause of Death

Keith Grayson was in the hospital after contracting COVID-19 in January 2022. As per his brother, he was in a recovery state. His cause of death was due to the disease’s repercussions. While in the treatment, he passed away on April 17, 2022. At the age of 55, he died because of covid. Soon after, his family issued the following message on Twitter
