The autopsy report released on February 9, 2022, noted that Saget died in his sleep from a hit to the back of the head, likely as a result of a fall. The resultant injuries (subdural hematoma and subarachnoid hemorrhage) were the result of blunt head trauma. Despite having no signs of inflammation at the time of his death, he tested positive for COVID-19. An injunction against the release of additional documents from the investigation of Saget's death was issued on March 14, 2022, after Saget's family sued to prevent the release of additional documents. The family argued that their graphic content would constitute a violation of their privacy.
