Ivo Knobloch's wife Sherrilyn Ifill was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 17, 1962. She is the daughter of parents Lester and Myrtle. In a family of ten children, she is the youngest. Ifill's mother died when she was six years old. Gwen Ifill, the late anchor of the PBS NewsHour, was her first cousin. Gwen's and Sherrilyn's fathers both became African Methodist Episcopal ministers after moving to the U.S. from Barbados. In her first job out of law school, she worked for the ACLU in New York for a year.
