Kangol Kid was well-known as a member of the old-school hip-hop group UTFO. Also, he was an American hip-hop producer, songwriter, breakdancer, and emcee.

Siblings of Kangol Kid

In Brooklyn, New York, he was born to Haitian parents but shied away from his Haitian heritage growing up. His birth date August 10, 1966, with the birth sign Leo. His father Andre Fequiere worked as a taxi driver and his mother Jean Fequiere worked as a housekeeper at a hospital. Kangol real name is Shaun Shiller Fequiere.

He has three siblings brothers; they are Joel Fequiere, Andy Fequiere, and Alix Fequiere. Kangol had American nationality and was of Afro-American ethnicity. From a local school in Brooklyn, he completed his schooling educated. 


Career of Kangol

Kangol signed to his first record deal when he was 17 years old. He along with his friends founded a breakdance and hip-hop group known as UTFO in the early 1980s. The group's breakout single Roxanne Roxanne helped to bring them to prominence in 1984. In the year 1988, the group UTFO was named Best Rap Group at the Urban Music Awards. Also, they performed on Soul Train and opened for Hall & Oates. Kangol Kid earned his nickname as a teenager in Brooklyn, where he often wore hats that were made by the Kangol company.

Kid became the first hip-hop artist to endorse a product. After UTFO was disbanded, Kangol went on to write songs for other musicians and became the manager and producer of the rap group Whistle. In 2012, he was honored by the American Cancer Society for his work teaching kids about the music industry and touring high schools. One of his signature hats is in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture's collection. Also, Kangol Kid is regarded as one of the pioneers of hip-hop.

They became parents of a baby girl Amancia. However, the couple didn't share their daughter's birth date. Kangol lived happily with his wife Tajiri but passed away due to cancer. However, his wife Swindell, regularly uploads photos of Kangol and their child.

Kangol Kid Cause of Death

Kangol Kid was hospitalized for a few weeks prior to his death, but it is not clear how long he had been battling colon cancer. On December 18, 2021, he passed away at a hospital in Manhasset, New York.

At the age of 55, Kangol Kid died from colon cancer. Snoop Dogg and LL Cool J paid him a visit while he was in the hospital. Since the news of his death was announced, social media has been flooded with tributes to the late rapper.
