Eric Boehlert was an American journalist, writer, as well as media critic. For ten years, he was a senior fellow at Media Matters for America and a staff writer at both Salon and Billboard.

Eric Boehlert's Early Life

On December 6, 1965, Eric Boehlert was born to American parents in Utica, New York. He lived with his family in Indiana before moving to Guilford, Connecticut. He grew up with three siblings; they are Bart Boehlert, Thom Boehlert, and Cynthia Boehlert.

Eric had American nationality and was of white ethnicity. During high school, he played guard on his high school basketball team. He enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst located in Amherst, Massachusetts. From the University, Eric received a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern Studies in 1988.


Career of Boehlert

Eric Boehlert was an American journalist, writer, as well as media critic. He was a contributing editor to Rolling Stone as a music writer. In the year 1992, he was hired as a senior staff writer at Billboard. Later,  Boehlert became a senior writer at Salon, a news and opinion website. Writing at Billboard, he investigated corporate malfeasance in the music business.

Boehlert won a music journalism award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers in 2002 for an article series 2001 on the radio industry. Also, he focused on Clear Channel Communications' dominance over the radio and concert businesses. He joined Media Matters for America (MMFA), a content analysis organization in 2006. Boehlert published Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush, in which he argued that the mainstream media poorly scrutinized the administration of George W. Bush. He covered the emergence of blogging in US politics in his 2009 book, Bloggers on the Bus.

In 2020, Boehlert launched his own MMFA newsletter, Press Run, on the Substack platform, after being a senior fellow at MMFA for ten years. His final article for Press Run, published on the day of his death, questioned the media's coverage of the Biden administration, writing that it was downplaying the president's accomplishments. Previously, he worked as a staff writer at both Salon and Billboard while a senior fellow at Media Matters for America.

Wife of Eric Boehlert

Eric Boehlert had lived a blissful married life with his wife Tracy Breslin. Eric and Tracy were in a relationship with his boyfriend before their marriage. As per reports, the duo met through a mutual friend. However, both of them kept a low profile about their personal life. Therefore, Eric and Tracy's marriage date, and love affairs not mentioned in the public. But the couple got married in a beautiful ceremony held in presence of friends and family members.

Out of their married life, they became parents of two kids (son and daughter). The duo welcomed their elder child Ben Boehlert, born on May 3, 2000. Then, they blessed with a daughter Jane Boehlert whose born date is unknown. They were doing an excellent work of parenting their children. The couple was happily married but ended with Boehlert's death.


Eric Boehlert Cause of Death

Eric was an avid cyclist. Boehlert often biked at night, wearing reflective gear and using lights on his bicycle. On April 4th of 2022, while biking, Eric Boehlert was struck and killed by an eastbound NJ Transit train that was coming into Watchung Avenue station in Montclair.

His cause of death was an accident. At the age of 56, he passed away. Soledad O'Brien praised him as a "fierce and fearless defender of the truth", while Hillary Clinton praised him for "critically countering misinformation and media bias".

Eric Boehlert stood at a height of 6 feet 4 inches or 1.93 m tall.
