Former American football quarterback, Flutie was born on 23 October 1968 in Manchester, Maryland, United States. His full name is Douglas Richard Flutie with the birth sign Scorpio. His parents were Dick Flutie (father) and his mother Joan Flutie. His great-grandparents immigrated from Lebanon. At age six, he moved with his family to Melbourne Beach, Florida, where his dad was a quality engineer in the aerospace industry.

Having American nationality, Doug is of Lebanese ethnicity. Flutie again moved to Natick, Massachusetts in 1976 when the space program abruptly slowed down in the mid-1970s. Doug graduated from Natick High School and was an All-League player in football, basketball, and baseball. He completed his education at Boston College. Doug had played as a football quarterback over spanned 21 seasons.
The Los Angeles Rams selected him 285th overall in the 11th round of the 1985 NFL Draft, the lowest pick of a Heisman winner. Having left the NFL in 1990, Flutie later became known as one of the best players in the CFL. With his CFL success behind him, Flutie returned to the NFL with the Buffalo Bills in 1998, signing a Pro Bowl contract and earning the Comeback Player of the Year award.
